Marine Surface Preparation Using UHP Water Jetting

Marine structures are exposed to harsh conditions that cause protective coatings to break down over time. Before inspection, maintenance, repairs or recoating can begin, existing coatings, corrosion and surface contaminants must be removed. Traditional preparation methods can damage the steel substrate, create dust and produce abrasive waste that requires collection and disposal.

Marine surface preparation using UHP water jetting, also known as hydroblasting, provides a controlled solution. Ultra High Pressure water removes existing coatings and contaminants while preserving the underlying steel. This creates a clean surface ready for inspection, repair or the application of new protective coatings. The process reduces dust, removes the need for abrasive media and can be supported by water recovery and treatment systems where required.

Our Carbon Neutral certification reflects our commitment to reducing the environmental impact of marine surface preparation while meeting the standards required across the marine sector.

Applications

UHP water jetting can be used to prepare a wide range of vessels and marine structures for inspection, maintenance, repairs and recoating. Robotic, magnetic or hand lance equipment is selected to suit the asset and access requirements.

  • Ship Hulls

Ship hulls require regular surface preparation to maintain protective coating systems and control corrosion. Hydroblasting removes existing coatings and surface contaminants while preserving the underlying steel, creating a clean surface ready for inspection, repairs and the application of new coatings.

  • Marine Terminals

Marine terminals contain a wide range of steel structures and equipment that require planned maintenance to protect against corrosion. Marine surface preparation removes existing coatings and contaminants, providing the clean surface needed for the application of new protective coating systems.

  • Jetties & Piers

Steel jetties and piers are subject to constant exposure from moisture, salt and heavy use. Marine surface preparation removes failed coatings and corrosion from structural steel, providing a suitable surface for refurbishment and the application of new protective coating systems.

  • Port Infrastructure

Ports depend on well maintained steel assets to support safe and efficient operations. Hydroblasting is used to prepare cranes, loading facilities, walkways and structural steel before maintenance and recoating, helping extend the service life of critical infrastructure.

  • Offshore Platforms

Offshore platforms operate in demanding marine environments where steel structures are continually exposed to saltwater and harsh weather conditions. UHP water jetting prepares decks, structural steel and other exposed surfaces for maintenance by removing deteriorated coatings without the use of abrasive media.

  • Dock Gates & Lock Gates

Dock gates and lock gates rely on protective coatings to withstand continuous exposure to water and changing operating conditions. UHP water jetting removes deteriorated coatings and prepares steel surfaces for inspection, repairs and recoating while preserving the integrity of the substrate.
